I Don't Have Anything to Say. Really, I Don't...

The truth is, I recently re-discovered a blog sweetly named Cream Puffs (Creampuffs? I don't know) in Venice. I am obsessed. Not only is she a gifted cook and baker, she also has a keen eye for food photography. I want to make everything she makes and see if mine come out as pretty as hers do. Tucked away in her blog I found The Daring Kitchen...a website begun by two daring women (Creampuff is one of them). Once a month DK throws down the gauntlet and dares you to challenge yourself to cook or bake something extraordinary along with them. And then tell the story.

This month's challenge is Zuni Ricotta Gnocchi. I'm too late to participate this time and I've made ricotta gnocchi before, but I'm probably going to make some anyway. And while I wait for next month's challenge, maybe I'll pick something from the archives. Will it be Abbey's Infamous Cheesecake? Or Lasagne from Emilia Romagna? French Tuile? Oh, but how can I not try Caramel Cake with Caramelized Butter Frosting? I mean it involves browned butter...And can we talk about the Homemade Pizza Crust? Lavash Crackers? Soft Pretzels? Chocolate Eclairs? L'Opera? Oh! My head spins with possibility. But I know who is clamoring to be first...who seduced me from the start...it was you, Fleur de Sel Caramels. Sweet, buttery, soft, salty. You just can't wait. Meet me tomorrow in the kitchen.

Doesn't that sound like fun? It does to me. I need something fun and challenging to do...something not so mundane. So I'm going to try it. And I'll document success and failure here...the good, the bad and the utterly inedible. And I'll post pictures too, but I can't promise they'll be as perfect as Cream puff (Creampuff? Still don't know) in Venice's.

The DK kitchen events only take place a couple times a month, so once I have exhausted the challenge archives, I'll have to find something interesting to tell you. Maybe I'll explain how I've come undone...and why...
